文章目錄 前言 MOTIVATION(寫作動(dòng)機(jī)) 1 Ubuntu Server版本 2 Ubuntu Desktop版本 3 二者的區(qū)別 4 我們可以同時(shí)安裝server和Desktop版本嗎？ [5] 5 怎么從Ubuntu 14.04更新到16.04 總結(jié) 參考文獻(xiàn) 前言 這里系統(tǒng)講述下Ubuntu Server和Desktop版本的區(qū)別，并探索二者是否可以同時(shí)安裝。 MOTIVATION(寫作動(dòng)機(jī)) 在百度上看了前兩個(gè)答案，感覺(jué)還不夠，所以打算自己寫一下（盡量避免和現(xiàn)有的文章做重復(fù)性工作，感覺(jué)意義不大）。 1 Ubuntu Server版本 在此先介紹一下Server版本的一些特性： 1）Ubuntu Server是專門用作服務(wù)器的版本。這個(gè)版本是特意針對(duì)服務(wù)器進(jìn)行優(yōu)化過(guò)的，適用的場(chǎng)景是：服務(wù)器時(shí)刻聯(lián)網(wǎng)，時(shí)刻都在開(kāi)機(jī)狀態(tài)，相應(yīng)的，服務(wù)器的boot（啟動(dòng)、引導(dǎo)）時(shí)間會(huì)更長(zhǎng)些。如果你用的是只有wifi的機(jī)器（通常新版本的筆記本都是這樣），那么Server版本的啟動(dòng)會(huì)持續(xù)3-5分鐘，因?yàn)镾erver上的很多模塊都需要依靠網(wǎng)絡(luò)來(lái)加載，但是在啟動(dòng)的時(shí)候，WiFi不可用。 The Server version is meant for server. Here are at least two things that affect you when you use Server version as your daily terminal console box: It is optimized for the server, assuming always has a wired network, always are power on (it does not reboot often). So your box will have much longer boot time. If you use WiFi only machine (most new style laptops do), the Server version of Ubuntu boot-up procedure can hang on there for 3 to 5 minutes, because lot modules on server depend on network when load it, but at that stage, WiFi network is not available yet, indeed, the Server version default setting doesn’t come with whole WiFi package. [2] 2 Ubuntu Desktop版本 感興趣的可以看看Ubuntu的release notes [4]。 3 二者的區(qū)別 1）CD（即安裝盤、安裝包）內(nèi)容不同： “Server”安裝包特有的包：服務(wù)器相關(guān)的包（Apache 2， Bind 9 等等） “Desktop”安裝包特有的包：桌面相關(guān)的包（X，Gnome，KDE 等等） 2）有無(wú)GUI界面： Server版本是沒(méi)有GUI界面的。 3）內(nèi)核（kernel）： 在12.04版本之前，Server版本使用的是專門為服務(wù)器優(yōu)化過(guò)的內(nèi)核；不過(guò)這個(gè)版本之后，Server和Desktop的內(nèi)核就沒(méi)有區(qū)別了。 甚至有人認(rèn)為,12.04版本之后，Server和Desktop版本除了GUI圖形界面有無(wú)，就沒(méi)有什么區(qū)別了： The conclusion is, after 12.04, there is no significant difference between the two except that you have a GUI comes along with the desktop version while there is no GUI for the server one. 但是感覺(jué)下面的話最經(jīng)典： It’s worth noting that other than the kernel settings, Ubuntu Desktop and Server are essentially the same distribution, just with different default package selection. They both use the same packages and respositories. If you run apt-get install ubuntu-desktop you will end up with the functional equivalent of Desktop Edition. That also means that any package that’s intended for Ubuntu Server will run just as happily on your desktop installation.
